Knowledge which is of value to your organisation lies within the individuals you employ and extracting and codifying this knowledge can help you derive the maximum value from your human capital. This tacit knowledge is embedded in the way that you do things and is usually unique to your organisation.
First, you must identify which employees possess valuable knowledge and then this knowledge must be codified. Once codified, this knowledge becomes an intellectual asset that may be legally registered or alternatively is managed within the organisation as a trade secret. The company has exclusive rights to this knowledge and can share it amongst the rest of its employees or sell access rights to it.
